Same Diff

Here's another one of those, "How did we get here so fast?" posts, but I didn't want to let April disappear without acknowledging something big that happened in our family this month.
We have a baseball player in training.  And Daddy is the coach.  Along with that comes some funny stories.  Here is, I am sure, the first of many:

As the boys geared up to get the Little League endeavour off the ground, Kekoa was getting more and more excited.

"Daddy?" he asked, "What's our name again?  The Fairies?"

I wish I could give you a picture of Craig's face.  But alas, I can't.  You will just have to picture on your own the horrified look that passed across his face when the full realization of what Kekoa had just asked dawned.

"No," he was quick to clarify, "We are the Angels.  The ANGELS."

A couple of weeks later after a few games were under their belts but we still hadn't gotten the official team uniforms, we were driving home from Bible study.

"What's our team name?" Kekoa asked again, "The fairies?"

When I clarified that no, the team name was indeed the "Angels", he gave me a silly grin and said, "Oh yeah.  They're so close together I get them mixed up."

Fairies.  Angels.  They both have wings.  Same diff.  It might be a long season.

The Thing About Friendship

A little unfocused (heh.), but happy to see each other. And looking
a little "ethereal" because of the street light behind us.
I've been traveling a little (or a lot) with my job in the last couple of months.  I do suffer from a case of the "travel bug" somewhat infrequently, so I don't completely resent it, but I do very much dislike the separation it brings from my family.  The two days away this time, though, wasn't a total loss.  Why?  Because I got to see Martha for a few minutes on Monday night after she flew back home from the great white north.  What a treat.  Nothing like a few minutes with a good friend to make life all right again.  Thanks, Ethel!

There was some confusion on whether the husband was taking the
picture or not.  See it?

Quacks Me Up

A few weeks back, I had a work trip to Memphis, TN and stayed in The Peabody hotel there famous for it's ducks.  There's a duck parade twice a day to bring the ducks down and then take them back up to their Duck Palace on the rooftop.  Between 10 and 5 every day, they while away the hours swimming in the hotel's fountain.

When I go on said trips, I like to buy something to bring back to "my boys" as a way to say that I missed them.  Not sure why or when I started doing this, but it's turned into this thing I do.  Imagine my delight, when I found these for my biggest boy.  It totally "quacks" me up to see him wearing these.  I wrestled with the madness of spending $17 on a pair of underwear, but so far?  They've been totally worth it.

My boys are very much into arts and crafts, so they were pleased to have their own rubber ducks to paint.  We try our best to not be so busy that they don't actually get to test them out in a real live bathtub at times.

Sweet Spot

Craig and I are approaching 16 years this year in May.  Sweet 16?  Unreal.  So I had to smile when I saw this on Pinterest this morning:

I couldn't have said it better myself.  Craig and I are currently in that "sweet spot" of marriage where we are firing on "all cylinders" as they say.  It's hard to describe the phenomenon without sounding cliche.  I could say he's my best friend.  And that would be true.  I could say I trust him and he trusts me.  And that would be true.  I could say I can't imagine life without him (or don't want to).  And that would be true.  I could say he makes me laugh.  And that would be true.  I could say we know each other so well we've started to start and finish each other's sentences.  And that would be true.  I could say I love him deeply.  And that would be true.  I could say sometimes I just watch him because I love him and it makes me smile and that would be true.  I could say I think he's the best Daddy in the world.  And that would be true.

But how do you combine all that into words?  How do you describe what "sweet spot" feels like?  How do you describe what "sweet spot" is?

I have no idea.

I DO know, however, that I want to spend the rest of my life with this man.  I love him fiercely.  Sweet spot.  I'll take it.

The Sound of Music - 2012 So Far

Time to break the silence.  Yikes.  I'm not doing very well at this blogging business.  To start with.  Here are a few of my favorite things:

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens

No raindrops, but I loved my roses from Craig this Valentine's Day.
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens

We wear socks on our head. Socks. Mittens. Whatever.
Brown paper packages tied up with strings

Birthday gift from Aunt Heidi.
These are a few of my favorite things

The thing with chocolate Easter bunnies and boys is...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Chocolate nut pie.  Close enough.
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
If you listen close, you can almost hear sleigh bells.
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
My sister's "blue moon" photo - unedited.
These are a few of my favorite things
LOVE my sister's photography!
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Well, not quite a girl or blue satin sashes, but close enough.
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Me and my boy.
Silver white winters that melt into springs
Spring cherry blossoms remind me of Grandpa & Grandma.  I miss them!
These are a few of my favorite things
What's not to love?
When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
When the hot pan burns :(
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad
