So I just woke up from a dream. It's part dream, part nightmare. I'm at my parents farm and Pup (the part Australian Shepherd, part coyote dog they currently own) is uneasy. I look at what Pup is looking at and there are some official looking trucks out on the country road... you know... the kind that mean that someone is working on the electric wires or preparing to do some road construction or other official business. There is a little girl and a man with a measuring device of some sort (maybe a tape measure?) measuring from ditch to ditch across the driveway at different points down the ditch. All of the sudden a very large, poisonous snake appears and is moving from the ditch where they are at lightning speed across the yard and slithers under the far corner of the front porch right near where the shower in the house is. It's then that I realize that's where they must be keeping a snake nest residence. Earlier, I had been trying to clean the shower drain by pulling fuzz out of it and found snake skin in it. I took the snake skin, wrapped it in something that looks like a patch of window screen and googled it to see what kind of snake it was. It is a giant rattler, I find. I am now petrified that the boys will walk by that end of the porch. They insist on going outside to play, so I am trying to instruct them they can, but to avoid walking by the porch because I am terrified the snake will strike out at them and it is also large enough to eat them whole which also terrifies me. We are away from the house, and Kekoa takes off across the yard. I'm yelling at him to stop, but he doesn't. I am relieved when he makes it in the house with no snakes. But then... a black and red striped very large snake appears and focuses in on Gavyn and I...it is then that I realize we have a nest of snakes, not just one snake, living under the house. I also realize that I have no idea how to get away from this snake. It's fast and there's no place I can go to get away from it that it can't follow. I woke up before it got any further which was a relief, but I had this feeling of vague familiarity... like I've had this same dream before. I wouldn't mind if I didn't ever have it again. Yuck.
Other recurring nightmares I entertain (thankfully, they are rare) on occasion involve renovation of a large old house (it's always the same one... same layout)only to find that the upper rooms are haunted/full of evil spirits - it's a very sinister, terrible feeling you get when in those rooms; being unloved and cut off by a family member or loved one - constantly reaching out to them, but they act as if I don't exist (with this one, I usually wake up crying with that achy lump in the throat); and having to take a test when I realize I haven't been to class all semester and trying to figure out how I'm going to pass the class (usually this one involves math class and my old high school math teacher).
What are yours?
